Ro-Ra Aviation: EUR 50,000 savings thanks to more efficient runtime calculation with Imnoo

Solutions through precision. This is the motto of Ro-Ra Aviation Systems GmbH, the established supplier for the global aviation industry. Its core competencies lie in the high-precision machining of complex geometries from difficult-to-machine materials as well as in the design and assembly of tension and compression rods according to customer specifications. In this market, speed and efficiency in the quotation process is a key competitive factor. By using Imnoo, Ro-Ra has been able to reduce the time required to prepare quotations for precision machined parts by 70%.

Before Ro-Ra used Imnoo, the very complex inquiries and CNC components had to be programmed in CAM by experienced employees to determine the machine runtime. This process was very time-consuming, expensive and tied up valuable resources. With the targeted use of machine learning, the team's workload was significantly reduced after just two months. The result was a massive cost saving, which Business Development Manager Martin Riedl estimates at 1,500 hours per year. This corresponds to a saving of around 50,000 euros per year.

Speed and simplification of the inquiry process for machined parts

Before the introduction of Imnoo, the managers were somewhat skeptical but also curious as to whether the new technology with artificial intelligence could keep all its promises. However, it was clear that not only the state-of-the-art machinery with over 26 turning and milling centers, 7 robot stations and 90% automation, but also the automation of the quotation process was a key success factor for Ro-Ra Aviation GmbH.

In order to drive forward the verification of Imnoo's artificial intelligence called "Marvin", the experts from Imnoo and Ro-Ra took a structured approach. CNC parts were uploaded according to part families (geometry and material) and supplemented with post-calculations. As soon as the results were good, another family of parts was uploaded. Thanks to this methodical approach, the accuracy of "Marvin" could be verified after just 100 parts. And after 200 CNC milled parts in the archive, Ro-Ra Aviations Systems can now calculate 80% of its components with a precision of 5%. Nobody could have imagined that in the beginning!

Today, requested CNC parts are uploaded to the user-friendly Imnoo interface via 3D files using drag & drop and the favored machine and raw material are selected. "Marvin" can then precisely calculate the machine runtime after just a few seconds. This is also possible because Marvin learns from the company's actual machine times and is therefore often better than the employees at estimating how long production will take. Thanks to Imnoo, more consistent margins can be achieved and errors minimized.

The advantages of using "Marvin"

According to Martin Riedl, the most important reason for using Imnoo is the good price-performance ratio and the simple implementation of this sustainable technology, which automatically adapts to the company's own needs. In addition, the cost savings were realized after just three months.

Ro-Ra Aviation describes the convenient drag & drop mode for item costing as the best feature. The statistics function of the artificial intelligence, which clearly shows the user how good "Marvin" already is in individual part families and where data still needs to be added, is also helpful for those responsible. This allows the team to track the machine learning algorithm and feed it with other items from the same parts family in order to obtain a more specific estimate for similar queries. For Martin Riedl, it is clear why Ro-Ra Aviations likes working with Imnoo: "Speed and simplification of the inquiry process for machined parts is an important success factor and people like working with it because it is simply cooler than Excel."
